We are just a day away from Apple’s October 30 event. But there’s no stopping to the leaks and rumours. The company is expected to launch new Apple iPad Pro variants with thinner bezels and FaceID tech onboard. While all these are mere speculations for now, the latest piece of information confirming the new iPad design comes directly from Apple as a part of the latest iOS 12 update. As reported by 9to5 Mac, the new iOS 12.1 version has an icon dig deep inside, showing what the new iPad tablets may look like.
The icon shows the 2018 iPad with rounded corners and thinner bezels on all the four sides. The Home button with TouchID at the front is missing, indicating the inclusion of FaceID. Also, there’s no notch as seen in the iPhone X-series. Also seen is that the sleep/wake button is at the top like before along with volume controllers on the upper-right side.
What gives credibility to this new ‘icon’ showing the 2018 iPad design is that a similar icon was seen before the arrival of the iPhone X last year and the iPhone XS smartphones this year. The resulting handset designs were similar upon the launch. The fact that this icon comes from iOS 12 itself, gives rumours a certain amount of confirmation.
Apple will be holding the event at Brooklyn Academy of Music, Howard Gilman Opera House, New York, US. You can tune in to Apple’s live stream event on October 30 starting 7.30PM IST. Apple tipster and former KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has previously claimed that Apple will be refreshing the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the 10.5-inch model as well. The latter variant may have an 11-inch screen with the same dimension as the bezels are slimmer this time and give more screen estate.
The processor, co-processor, screen resolution, RAM and battery size are also expected to get improved. There could be a new design for the Apple Pencil as well.
